I dug up some old thoughts about online marketing.
The best color for CTA buttons? Orange. No, seriously, they should all be orange.
Show pictures of the thing you're selling. People won't buy something if all they see is some vaguely happy person. Also, relatively few visitors will be able to identify with the single image you can show.
If you have a segmented market, design a fork for visitors to self-select their segment as early as possible. Then you can market to their niche.
I've updated some of the recipes I keep around here - particularly Gustav's lentil soup recipe which we've been making for years. Making this hearty lentil soup recipe on a day off is a great way to stash some easy meals in the fridge and freezer for later. It makes about 12 bowls of soup. It'll a few hours to prepare and simmer, but the dicing goes a lot faster if you have someone else around to help.
With the "keywords" field, I can execute these bookmarks with keyboard commands (typing into the URL bar). Since new tabs open with focus in the URL bar with Control T, this makes for some pretty zippy workflows. Searching the jQuery docs: Control T, jq [search term] [enter]. Looking up synonyms: Control T, thes [word] [enter].
The keywords are even pretty convenient when I have to involve the mouse. Adding the current URL to my Instapaper list: click into the URL bar and ip [enter]. Pulling up Google's cached version of the current page: click into the URL bar and gcache [enter].
